Massachusetts Materials Technologies, LLC is hiring for the position of Sr. Mechanical Engineer. The Duties of the Sr. Mechanical Engineer are as follows:

  • Develop a user-friendly software interface for data acquisition using MATLAB and LabVIEW;
  • Develop data processing software using MATLAB for analysis of data from MMT instruments and image processing of microscopy images;
  • Prototype and implement sensors and associated electronics for making load and displacement measurements within MMT instruments;
  • Conduct fundamental research and experimental studies in the areas of mechanical and materials science to find solutions to scientific and engineering challenges. This includes research and development work related to steel pipelines and additive manufacturing through cold spray coatings;
  • Design mechanical parts through stress analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA);
  • Perform metallurgical analysis using optical microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to understand changes in material microstructure from strain hardening, welding, heat treatments, and material deposition;
  • Use the Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) software SOLIDWORKS to model new parts and update existing assemblies; and,
  • Collaborate in scientific and industrial publications, presentations, and research proposals.

Position Requirements: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering Science or related; 2 years’ experience in an occupation involving Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering which includes: Materials science and engineering including metallurgy; Thermal spray processes including cold spray coatings; Optical microscopes, Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), and associated sample preparation. Basic programming languages and environments, including MATLAB and LabView; experience with using finite elements analysis (FEA) simulations for solid mechanics; experience with CAD/CAM software like SOLIDWORKS; experience with presenting and publishing scientific articles in journals/conferences.  Will also accept Graduate Research in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science for experience; 10% National Travel Required.
